The real cost of imprisoning young people

In the report Punishing Costs, (2010), A. Knuutila of The New economic Foundation has called for a huge reduction in the number of young people locked up for offending, and the £100 000 annual cost per offender to be redirected to local authorities in programmes designed to reduce offending and create a safer, more inclusive society.
