Care Quality Commission on the Mental Health Act

The Care Quality Commission have published Monitoring the Use of the Mental Health Act in 2009/2010. This includes a detailed survey of Community Treatment Orders, which are now being used at 10 times the rate anticipated at the time the legislation was introduced. Dame Jo Willams, chair of the Commission, has expressed her concern in the Guardian, 27 October. the report also cites examples of poor practice which infringes the human rights and dignity of mental health patients.
